    The Adler Center for Women’s Health was founded by Alf Adler, M.D., a board certified obstetrician/gynecologist who believes women should have alternatives in their health care.  Dr. Adler is known for his astute medical skills, considerate, responsive care and talent for listening.  His skilled, knowledgeable staff share these same qualities, as well as his philosophy that women deserve options.

Dr. Eduardo Torres joined our staff on August 1, 2005He obtained his medical degree and completed his residency at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Dr. Torres graduated magna cum laude earning several awards for his academic achievements including Dean's list and Golden Key National Honor Society. His training includes a vast experience in abdominal, vaginal and endoscopic (both laparoscopic and hysteroscopic) surgery. Dr. Torres prides himself in being a compassionate and caring physician who shows respect to his patients and builds lasting relationships with them.

Dr. Jodie Horton joins our staff on September 1, 2005She obtained her medical degree at Medical College of Virginia and completed her residency at the University of Tennessee. Her academic achievements include the Gynecology Oncology Award, the Resident Teaching Award, and the National Dean's List. Her special interests include vaginal laparoscopic surgeries and treating abnormal pap smears. She prides herself in being extremely energetic and a good listener. During her personal time she enjoys bicycling, scrapbooking, reading, and spending time with her family.

MEET OUR PHYSICIANS

Dr. Alf Adler earned his medical degree at The George Washington University School of Medicine and completed his residency there in 1984.  He has been providing skilled medical and wellness care to women in Prince William and Stafford counties ever since.  He speaks both English and Spanish fluently.  He is Board–certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and has held leadership positions in a variety of local and regional medical organizations.  He is an Associate Clinical Professor at the George Washington University School of medicine.  He has advanced training and experience in treating high risk pregnancies, infertility, simple and complicated gynecological illness.  His expert surgical skills include laser and laparoscopic surgery, enabling many women to experience a far easier recovery and less scarring than abdominal surgery.

Dr. Hector Colon joined our staff on July 15, 2002.  He earned his  Medical Degree at the Ponce School of Medicine in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He became a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha, an Honor Medical Society. He appears in Who's Who Among Students and the National Dean's List in recognition of his academic achievements.  He completed his residency in OB/GYN at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  He has advanced training in laparoscopic surgery, vaginal surgery, and management of high risk pregnancies.  Dr. Colon speaks both English and Spanish fluently.

MEET OUR NEW MIDWIFE!

Patricia Gould, CNM will be joining our practice November 1, 2005. 

Patricia Gould, CNM, will be joining the Adler Center on November 1, 2005. Patricia has been assisting women and their families throughout pregnancy and childbirth for the past ten years. She completed her nursing and midwifery degrees at The Ohio State University, earning her MS in 2004. She also has a BS in Spanish and speaks spanish fluently!

Patricia lived in south Texas for twelve years and enjoys working with the Hispanic community. Her hobbies include traveling, reading, soccer and Latin dance. Her area of interest is naturopathy/holistic health.

MEET OUR MIDWIVES

     The Adler Center Midwives have many years of clinical experience, hold advanced graduate degrees and are certified by the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM).  They are trained in a full range of care for women, including pap smears, breast exams, birth control/family assessment and menopausal care including hormone replacement therapy.  Women of all ages appreciate our midwives’ knowledgeable, yet non intimidating approach to providing both obstetrics and well-woman gynecology.    

Pamela Becker, CNM joined our staff on August 5, 2002 after moving down to Virginia from Vermont.  Pam has over 16 total years of experience - 9 of which she has practiced full scope midwifery.  She  earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northwestern University School of Nursing in Chicago, Illinois and her Certificate in Nurse Midwifery and Masters Degree in Science at the Columbia University Graduate School of Nursing in New York, New York.  Prior to joining The Adler Center, she worked in a small private practice in New Hampshire.  Her special interests include holistic health and being a mom!

Monica Byrne, CNM, joined for The Adler Center for Women’s Health in March of 2004.  She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Detroit-Mercy in Detroit, MI.  She earned her Masters of Nursing in Midwifery at the University of Illinois in Chicago, IL.  She has been working in healthcare for six years, most recently at Georgetown Hospital in Washington, DC.  She loves to travel.  Her hobbies include cooking, biking, hiking, and any other outdoor activity.

Rita-Marie Goudreau, CNM joined The Adler Center for Women’s Health in June of 2001.  She grew up in South Florida and earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida.  She then worked for 2 years as a labor and delivery nurse in South Georgia where she also taught prenatal classes.  Upon acceptance to graduate school she then moved to Nashville, TN to complete her lifelong dream to become a Midwife.  She completed her Masters of Science in Nurse Midwifery at Vanderbilt University in December 2000.  Her interests include hiking, biking, rafting, and snow skiing.
