The
Adler Center for Women’s Health
Alf Adler,
M.D., a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist, opened
The Adler Center for Women’s Health because he believes
women
should have choices in their health care. In this practice, you
may
choose to see a midwife, a physician or both. You may choose a
medical
treatment, a natural solution or a combination to resolve a health
concern.
Whatever your reason for needing health care, we share information
about
available alternatives to help you make informed decisions about what’s
right
for you.
Our physicians have advanced training and experience in treating
high risk pregnancies, infertility, simple and complicated
gynecological illness. Their expert skills in gynecological surgery
include laser and laparoscopic surgery. Three of our physicians
speak both English
and Spanish fluently. Our midwives’ knowledge of nonmedical
as well as medical treatments further broadens your health care
choices.
Through screening and education, they teach you how to prevent disease
and
illness. Together, our physicians and midwives provide the
optimum
in health care.
WHAT ARE MIDWIVES?
Women
of all ages choose midwives not only for childbirth care but also
well-woman gynecology. They appreciate the midwive’s
knowledgeable yet non-intimidating approach. Our midwives
understand and relate to women’s issues. They help put you at
ease by scheduling ample time for each visit and encouraging you to ask
questions, voice your concerns and share your preferences.
Listening to you also helps them determine treatment options that are
right for you.
Midwives specialize in a full range of care for women. They are
trained to provide pap smears, breast exams, menopausal therapy, birth
control/family planning, prenatal, delivery and postpartum care,
initial assessment and
care of newborns. Our midwives have many years of clinical
experience,
hold advanced graduate degrees and are certified by the American
College
of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM). They are qualified to attend births
in
a hospital.
Education
is a
strong component of midwifery care. Focusing on
your overall health, they not only treat current issues, but also teach
you how to prevent future illness and disease.
Midwives take a different approach to childbirth other than traditional
obstetrical care. They view pregnancy as a natural, healthy
function, unless proven otherwise. By closely monitoring your
pregnancy, they can recognize potential difficulties early, and often
prevent problems from developing. They actively involve you in
your care and welcome birth plans.
Our midwives are part of a collaborative physician-midwife practice, The
Adler Center for Women’s Health. If you need high risk
prenatal care or surgery for a gynecological concern, you benefit from
the
advanced medical expertise of our obstetrician/gynecological partners.
