Will someone call me with my
bloodwork/culture/pap results?
We will contact you either
through mail or by telephone depending upon your results. The pap
smear takes 2-4 weeks to get a
result to our office. Cultures take at
least 72 hours for results. Bloodwork
can come in as early as the next day.
Please do not call our office for results unless you have not heard
from
us by mail or by phone within 4-5 weeks of your visit. If you had a
culture or
bloodwork, you should call us within 7 days after your visit if you
haven’t
heard from us.
The amount of calls we
receive each day can be overwhelming and we would like to be able to
accommodate those who need more immediate attention. We will mail a
letter to
you with your results if they are normal. This
could take up to 4 weeks. If
you are extremely concerned and need to know a bloodwork result, you
can call
the nurses’ line at (703) 680-5327 option 3 and leave your name and
number and
we will call you back as soon as possible during the appropriate hours.
Why are people
being brought back to see the doctor/midwife before me when I was here
before they were?
There may be as many as 3
different providers seeing patients that day and they all run on
different
schedules. Remember that the patient
being call ahead of you may be seeing someone else that day.
Can I eat anything
before I get my one hour glucose test?
You cannot eat anything
with sugar before your glucose test. If
your test is in the early morning time, you can have water, toast,
oatmeal,
eggs, or milk. Do not eat or drink
anything with added sugars-this includes fruit juice and those little
flavored
coffee creamers for your coffee. If you
have an afternoon appointment, you cannot have anything with sugar for
at least
4 hours prior to the test.
Do I need to
schedule an appointment for my labwork to be drawn?
You may come in anytime
between the hours of 8:00am and 11:00am and again between 1:30pm and
4:00pm. The phlebotomist is not
available after 4:00pm.
Do you automatically
do an STD check with my pap smear?
The answer is NO. If you would
like these tests
performed, the
provider would be happy to do them for you.
Some insurance plans may not cover these tests if there is no medical
indication for them.
When
should I have a mammogram, colonoscopy and bone density test?
Mammogram: Baseline
at age 40 unless there is a family history.
If you have a family history, we will order one between age
35-40.
The mammograms will then be yearly if they
are normal.
Colonoscopy: Baseline at age 50,
unless you have family history
or are having problems and would require one earlier. Depending
on your results, you may be required to repeat this
test between 5 and 10 years.
Bone Density:
Age 40 and
every 2 years after that, depending on your results. If you have
a family history or are at risk, you would need one
earlier than age 40.
How old should my
daughter be to get her first pap smear?
She can wait until she is
18-21 years old unless she is having any problems or is sexually active.
Does my copay include
any lab tests?
No, if you owe a copay for
lab tests, you will receive a bill from the lab.
Don't you know what my
insurance covers?
Our
staff is
very
knowledgeable on what most insurances cover, but remember, there are a
lot of
insurance plans out there. It is
ultimately your responsibility to know what is covered by your
insurance prior
to your office visit.
Why
can't you give me the results
of my daughter's visit?
When
our
patients come
to
our office, there are required to fill out a verbal release form which
gives us
permission to release information to those provided on the form.
If you are not listed, by law, we are not
allowed to release any information without the patient’s consent.
