Some Changes We've Made Just for You!
On-Line Requests: As our practice grows, we would
like to be able to accomodate our patient's needs in as many ways as
possible. In order to reduce some of our phone volume, we've added the
ability to request appointments, prescriptions and lab results online.
Just go to the contact
page on our website and select the icon for online appointments. Fill
in the requested information and hit send. Our staff will receive your
request over our fax machine and call you with the requested
information. Remember, please be specific when making your requests.
Patient Forms: Our patients can now download all of
our patient
information forms from our website. We all know how hard it is to
remember everything about your medical history or your family's medical
history. You will have the time available to you to complete the forms
more accurately at home. This should also significantly decrease the
time spent in our reception area.
To be implemented April 1st - The Adler Call Center: In
order to answer your phone calls more effectively, we have developed a
Call Center whereby all of our phone lines for both Woodbridge and
Stafford will be answered in a central location in our Woodbridge
office. When you phone our office your call will be directed via our
automated attendant or by one of two phone receptionists. They will be
dedicating their time to solely answering and directing calls as well
as scheduling appointments. We are confident that our Call Center will
be successful in handling your calls quickly and efficiently and with
less hold times!
If you have any questions or suggestions regarding the above, please email us.

Pre-Pregnancy Planning |
 |
written by Pam Becker,CNM
HEALTH HABITS: Before your pregnancy, it is a good
time to overhaul your health habits.
How is your nutrition? Do you rely frequently on
fast foods for meals? Do you eat at least 3 servings of fruits and 5
servings of vegetables (other than french fries) a day? The food you
ingest provides the building blocks of your baby's body, cell by cell.
Recent research has shown that the quality of your diet throughout your
pregnancy can affect your child's weight, blood pressure, and
predisposition to diabetes and heart disease when he/she is an adult.
Get in the habit of eating healthy foods such as whole grains, low fat
dairy products, fruits, vegetables, and limit junk foods, sweets and
fats.
Do you exercise and maintain a healthy weight? If
you are significantly overweight, consider increasing your exercise and
losing some pounds. It is known that obese women do suffer more
complications in pregnancy such as diabetes, high blood pressure and
pre-eclampsia. Pregnancy is never a time to diet, so if you do need to
lose a few pounds do so now.

The Mitchell's Baby Story |
 |
written by Kimberly Mitchell
I've been a patient with the Adler Center since I was 18 and they have
helped me through all five of my pregnancies. It hasn't been an easy
job either. I had pre-eclampsia with all but one pregnancy. With that
one, I developed PUPPS and then with my last I was also positive for
Group B strep. Through all of this I always felt like I was in good
hands, even if I did grumble about all the office visits, NSTs and
blood tests.
Last April I was due with my fifth baby, and third
daughter. I was scheduled to be induced on March 24, 2004. The day
before, I snuck off of bedrest and got my hair cut and my husband and I
had a nice dinner thinking it would be our last dinner out for a while.

Rita-Marie's Surprise Birthday Party! |
 |
Rita-Marie Goudreau, one of our Certified Nurse
Midwives, turned the big "30" in February. Her friend, Pete, decided to
give her a surprise party. He invited her friends, family and the
entire Adler Center staff. Everyone knew about the party for weeks. It
was inevitable that Rita would figure it out????......
The party was held at a local restaurant in
Fredericksburg. It was on a Friday night so of course the traffic was
outrageous! We all got there before Rita and waited for her to arrive.
As she was being escorted by her girlfriend down the hall to the party
room, we held our breath hoping to surprise her. She walked in the room
and was astonished. She had absolutely NO IDEA she was walking into a
surprise party for herself!! She was so overwhelmed that she didn't
even know what to say - which is unusual for her!!

Employee of the Month - Joellen Gilzean, Stafford Office
Manager |
 |
I've worked for the Adler Center for over six years. I
started working in the Woodbridge office and after a year or so I
transferred over to the Stafford office. I started as the receptionist
there and eventually became the Stafford Office Manger. The most
enjoyable part of my job is getting to know our patients - especially
the OB patients. Watching them go through their pregnancy and the
sharing in the birth of their babies is so rewarding. Over the years
you can watch their babies grow up to be little people.
I was born in Oklahoma. I have lived all over the states
as my father was in the Air Force and my husband is retired from the
Marine Corps. My husband and I have lived in the Stafford area for ten
years. We have two children - our son, Jason and our daughter, Kristy.
During my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading and
walking through antique shops.

Craniosacral Therapy and Polarity Therapy - What is it? |
 |
written by Lorraine Yanku, RPP
Statements Salon and Spa (703) 494-2400
Craniosacral Therapy is a hands on approach that involves "listening
with the fingers" to the body's subtle rhythms and patterns of inertia
and congestion. The emphasis of treatment is to encourage and enhance
the body's own self healing and self regulating capabilities. The work
is very gentle and non invasive. Subtle suggestions are introduced
through the practitioner's hands to help restore balance in areas that
have been affected by inertia. Common causes of inertia are physical
injuries, emotional and psychological stresses, birth trauma and
toxicity.
Polarity Therapy is a comprehensive health system involving
energy based bodywork, diet, exercise and self-awareness. It works with
the Human Energy Field, electromagnetic patterns expressed in mental,
emotional and physical experience. In Polarity, health is viewed as a
reflection of the condition of the energy field, and therapeutic
methods are designed to balance the field for health benefit.
Some conditions that commonly respond well:
- back/neck/shoulder pain
- sinusitis
- menstrual pain
- sciatica
- birth trauma
- insomnia
- headaches
- pre op/post op procedures/surgeries
- depression/anxiety
- stress related disorders
