A Note From Dr. Adler
Last month, in our June issue, we featured a video interview with Mr.
Dan Williams of the Networking Community, and myself. Unfortunately,
many of us were unable to view it on our computers and for that I
apologize for the inconvenience. This video technology is quite new to
us. As you can imagine, it's a process that may take some time to
master, and along with this process are growing pains such as we
experienced.
We are now able to provide Parts One and Two of this video through our
website, and eventually I hope to incorporate video cams on a regular
basis through our E-Newsletter. I'm very excited to continue to provide
this latest technology and hope you not only enjoy what we have to
offer, but let us know if we can improve this service which is designed
for you. Thanks again.

Menopause Is A Normal, Natural Event |
 |
Menopause is a normal natural event that every woman
experiences. It is diagnosed by the lack of a menses (your period) for
12 consecutive months. In the United States menopause generally occurs
between the ages of 40 and 58, with an average age of 51 years old.
Women who smoke or who have not had a child tend to experience
menopause earlier while overweight women, those who have had children,
and those that have used hormonal contraception tend to reach menopause
later. There is also a suspected genetic link to the age at which a
woman will experience menopause with a woman being more likely to be
menopausal around the same age as her mother and sisters.
Whether naturally-occurring, surgically-induced, or
premature (before the age of 40), menopause represents the end of
fertility. It is associated with the reduced functioning of the ovaries
which decreases the amount of ovarian hormones, most notably estrogen.
It is this decreased amount of estrogen that can cause such symptoms as
hot flashes, warm flushes, night sweats and vaginal changes.
Approximately 85% of women will experience hot flashes in menopause.
Decreased estrogen also increases a woman's risk of osteoporosis. Other
life factors such a medical history and stress level can influence a
women's experience in menopause.

Vinny and Shelby's Amazing Pregnancy |
 |
We found out we were pregnant on March 10th, 2003. I was
absolutely thrilled and scared to death. I was 38 years old and had
accepted the fact that we may never have children. We decided long ago
that we would leave that up to God and not try modern medicine.
I told myself the first day that I was going to have a
great attitude about my pregnancy. I understood that whatever happened
I was helping God with a miracle. I truly believe that. I had a little
morning sickness but it never got to me. I kept thinking, "this is
nothing compared to the horror stories I've heard. I can handle it". I
was very lucky. I had a wonderful pregnancy. The worse part was waiting
for the results of the amniocentesis. We got the results back and
everything was normal. I was personally worried because of my age.
There was one little glitch, my husband and I had both thought it was a
boy. Well, when they told me it was a girl I was thrilled! I couldn't
wait to French braid her hair and play dress up, but my husband was in
denial for a few minutes. He was looking forward to teaching him how to
play catch and play football. She is now Daddy's little girl and he is
now looking forward to spoiling her.
