The Baird's Baby Story

I have been meaning to this for a while now.  I am very excited to share our story with everyone. I have been with the Adler Center for about 6 years now and have since recommended my mom, my sister, my sister in-law and several friends to the Adler Center.

We had a wonderful 5-year-old girl when my husband and I decided to have another baby (the truth is - I talked him into another one!!).   My first daughter was unplanned, 10 weeks premature delivered by C-Section due to pre-eclampsia.  I wanted this time to be different.  We planned this pregnancy and I decided very early in my pregnancy that I wanted to try and have my second child vaginally.

I went into the Adler center and had my IUD removed in the baird girlsmiddle of October 2002 and by November 5th, we were pregnant and due in early August.  I had a very UNEVENTFUL pregnancy, nothing like the first time.   I gained very little weight (yeah!) and I was very healthy.  We found out around 21 weeks we were having A GIRL.  I was very happy - another little doll!  My husband was not as excited, neither was my daughter.  She had already named the "Baby Brother" in my tummy and referred to "him" by name.  She cried when we told her and didn't want to talk about it for a few days.  They both warmed up to the idea.

In late May, Rita-Marie decided I needed another sonogram, to make sure the baby was growing okay.  We found out that, if I went to my due date, I would have an 8-9 pound baby.  With this being my first vaginal birth, she didn't want the baby to get that big.  She said I would probably need to be induced a few weeks early.  I went in to see Dr. Adler on July 10th (around 34 weeks).  He said the baby was almost 7 pounds and that if I didn't go into labor by July 28th, he would induce me.

Early July 16, 2003, around 4:00am, my water broke.  I didn't feel any pain, but I was scared to death.  I didn't know what to expect - at all!  I called the nurse and she told me to proceed to the hospital - but that I could take my time.  I made my early morning calls to my parents and sister, letting them know we were going to the hospital.  We all met there at about 6:30am.  I was taken to the Labor and Delivery room.  I walked the floor a while in the morning because my contractions were not regular or strong.  I watched as the moms came in and then went to their rooms with their new babies.  I was in labor all day, progressing VERY slowly.  Dr Adler came in a few times throughout the day and called to check on me when he wasn't there.  Finally, after 14 hours, two epidurals and a lot of visitors, at about 8:00pm, I started pushing.  A half hour later, Sharon delivered my beautiful little 7 pound 3 ounce baby girl.

Many thanks to Sharon, Dr. Adler and everyone that helped me through this wonderful pregnancy!!!  There is no one like you!!!

Sincerely,

Denny, Kim, Kelsey and Delanie Baird
